Play Therapy for Kids

Hey Little Human

Being a parent can be wonderful, exhausting, confusing, and sometimes all of those things in the same day.

When your child is struggling with big feelings, worries, behaviour changes, friendships, school challenges, family transitions, or simply doesn’t seem quite like themselves, it can be hard to know how to help. You want them to feel happy, confident, and understood—but sometimes they need a little extra support.

At Hey Little Human, I offer a warm, playful, and supportive space where children can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. Because kids don’t always have the words to explain what’s going on inside, therapy often happens through play, creativity, stories, and connection.

My goal is to help children feel seen, heard, and accepted exactly as they are.

How I Work

Every child is unique, so therapy is tailored to their personality, needs, and comfort level.

Child-Centered Play Therapy

Play is a child’s natural language. Through toys, games, art, and imaginative play, children can work through emotions, experiences, and challenges in a way that feels safe and comfortable.

Rather than expecting children to sit and talk about their feelings, play therapy allows them to explore what’s happening in their world at their own pace.

Sand Tray Therapy

Sometimes children have thoughts and feelings that are difficult to put into words.

Sand tray therapy gives children the opportunity to create scenes and stories using miniature figures and objects in a tray of sand. This gentle, creative process can help children express emotions, process experiences, build confidence, and gain a greater sense of understanding and control.

Many children find sand tray therapy calming, engaging, and even fun.

CBT for Kids

For children who are ready, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help them understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Using age-appropriate activities, games, and practical strategies, children can learn skills to manage worries, build confidence, cope with difficult emotions, and navigate challenges more effectively.

The focus is always on making these skills accessible, engaging, and relevant to your child’s everyday life.

What Counselling Can Help With?

Children may benefit from counselling when they are experiencing:

  • Anxiety and worries
  • Big emotions or frequent meltdowns
  • Low self-esteem or confidence
  • School-related stress
  • Friendship or social difficulties
  • Family changes such as separation or divorce
  • Grief and loss
  • Emotional regulation challenges
  • Behaviour concerns
  • Life transitions and adjustment difficulties

You don’t need to wait until things feel overwhelming. Sometimes early support can make a meaningful difference.

Supporting the Whole Family

Parents are an important part of a child’s journey.

Along the way, I’ll work collaboratively with you to help you better understand your child’s needs and provide guidance that supports growth and connection at home. My aim is not only to support your child, but to help strengthen the relationships and environments that help them thrive.

Let’s Connect

If you’re wondering whether counselling might be a good fit for your child, I’d be happy to connect.

Finding the right support can feel like a big step, but you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At Hey Little Human, children are welcomed with warmth, curiosity, and care—just as they are.
